B-Clear Chlamydia Screening
B-Clear is the name for the chlamydia screening programme run which covers Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire and is part of the national chlamydia screening programme.The service operates from the Piccadilly Centre as well as a range of venues throughout North Staffordshire offering free and confidential chlamydia screening.
What is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection that rarely has symptoms and is contracted through having unprotected sexual contact. One in ten young people have the infection and are not aware of it. If left untreated it can cause problem with fertility for both male and females.
It is very easy to test and treat Chlamydia, a urine test for males and a ‘self taken swab’ for females. Chlamydia is treated using a single dose of antibiotics. Young people are encouraged to use condoms in order to ‘b-clear’ of the infection.
The screening programme uses several innovative ways to reach young people aged 15-24.
A ‘postal testing kit’ is available on request through the B-clear website or people can drop into any of the contraceptive and sexual health walk in clinics and have their test results sent via ‘text’ messaging - 95% of people choose this method to receive their results.
There is also a mobile unit which is out and about most day’s a week in a variety of area’s and venues across North Staffordshire, including youth services, schools, colleges and universities, outreach football matches, theme parks, and city centres.
