Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service provide a programme of education and exercise for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
News Highlight
On average walking distance has improved by over 300% and feelings of breathlessness have also reduced significantly.COPD is an umbrella term for people with emphysema or chronic bronchitis which reduces the airflow to the lungs. It is a very debilitating disease and often leaves people housebound.
The team provide rehabilitation courses which teach clients how to increase their exercise capacity, improve walking distance, cope with breathlessness, reduce fatigue, depression and anxiety, and overall help to better manage periods of panic more effectively.
They also provide the patient with the skills and knowledge to best self manage their condition to reduce inappropriate admissions to hospital.
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation course consists of an 8 week group programme delivered in a friendly supportive atmosphere and includes:
- An exercise programme, carefully tailored to each individual.
- Advice on lung health and coping with breathlessness including practical application
- An in depth education programme
The team currently accept referrals from Consultants, Allied Heath Professionals, GPs, Practice Nurses & Community matrons.
