Rehabilitation Medicine Service

The Rehabilitation Medicine Service is a specialist rehabilitation service for people who have suffered a serious brain injury or complex stroke.

The Rehabilitation service is based on Broadfield Ward (North Staffordshire Rehabilitation Centre), at Haywood Hospital and provides inpatient rehabilitation and treatment for patient's who have suffered a serious brain injury or complex stroke to re-learn skills they have lost as a result of their trauma.

Following assessment each patient receives a personalised rehabilitation programme to maintain or increase their independence and participation in society. The specialist rehabilitation team work with other healthcare professionals for example physio, occupational and speech and language therapists so that patients needs are fully met. 

Patients are normally referred to this service via the Neurological Ward (Ward23) at University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

The service also has clinical nurse specialists who provide assessment and care in the patients own home following their discharge from hosptial.
