Intermediate Care Beds
Intermediate Care Beds provide care for patients requiring short term help following discharge from an acute hospital.
City Community Intermediate Care Beds are an alternative to hospital care for patients who are able to leave hopsital early, but who still need some short-term help in a hospital setting, for example after a fall or following an illness or surgery.
The team consists of qualified nurses, healthcare support workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and Age Concern staff.
Inpatients intermediate care is provided on Chatterley Ward at Haywood Hospital, which has 25 beds and Smithchild and Aynsley Wards at Longton Cottage which have 29 beds. The wards are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Patients can stay anything from a few days up to six weeks.
Rehabilitation can also be arranged for those patients who are medically fit and prefer to stay in their own home.
