Dental Services

The Primary Dental Care Service provides dental care for vulnerable people and emergency or urgent dental care to anyone not currently under treatment with a dentist locally.

Dental Services are provided primarily to residents of Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire, although emergency and urgent dental care is available to anyone visiting or working in the area. Special needs patients are often referred into the service via General Dental Practitioners (regular high street dentists) or referred on by a dentist from within the service.

The Dental Care team consists of dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists and dental nurses.

The following services are provided by the Dental Care Team:

  • Emergency or Urgent Dental Treatment
  • Out of Hours Emergency or Urgent Dental Treatment
  • Special Care Dental Treatment
  • Routine Dental Care for children
  • Epidemiology Surveys

Emergency or Urgent Dental Care is provided to anyone with dental pain who is not currently under treatment with another dentist locally. Treatment is restricted to pain relief and following your appointment we can provide a list of local NHS Dentists accepting new patients for regular care, or if appropriate refer you to another part of our service.

An Out of Hours Emergency or Urgent dental service is provided from Hanley Health Centre from 6pm to 9pm weekdays and 9:30am to 12:30pm on weekends and bank holidays

If you require emergency or urgent dental treatment please call the Dental Advice Line on 0300 123 0981. This service is available from 8pm to 5pm weekdays. At all other times your call will be transferred to NHS Direct. The Dental Advice Line also provides information on NHS Dentists across Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire who are accepting new patients.

Special Care Dentistry is provided for patients with special needs. These needs range from learning disabilities, patients with mental health problems and the medically compromised to patients who suffer from dental phobia. This type of dental care typically requires more patient contact time and can involve techniques such as the use of conscious sedation or general anaesthesia.

We provide Routine Care for children with specific dental needs and includes a General Anaesthesia Service for younger children requiring extractions.
